What is smart charging?
Smart charging refers to a charging system where electric vehicles, charging stations and charging operators share data connections. Through smart charging, the charging stations may monitor, manage, and restrict the use of charging devices to optimize energy consumption. Comparing with uncontrolled charging, smart charging will flatten the electricity usage peak by shifting the peak due to vehicle charging away from the peak due to other consumption.
How Does Smart Charging Work in Practice?
Smart charging operates by connecting charging points with users and operators through a cloud-based management platform. As EVs plug into charging stations, crucial information such as charging time, speed, and local grid capacity is transmitted to a centralized system. This data is then analyzed in real-time, allowing for automatic decisions on when and how EVs should be charged. Operators can remotely regulate energy usage through platforms, providing users with the convenience of monitoring and paying for charging sessions via mobile apps.

- Off-peak Charge: Users can set preferred low-price time slots, allowing the app to automatically initiate charging during these periods.
- Dynamic Charge:For greater flexibility, users simply set their planned usage time and desired State of Charge (SoC). The AI algorithm then adjusts the charging power in real-time based on electricity prices, optimizing savings.
